WOMEN HELPING WOMEN CORPORATE BREAKFAST TO ADDRESS THE INTERSECTION OF GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE & GUN VIOLENCE

53% of Mass Shooters Have History of Domestic Violence

CINCINNATI, OHIO – October 18, 2022 –– Women Helping Women (WHW), the leading regional resource for rapid crisis response and the prevention of gender-based violence, will present data trends regarding increased violence in our community, schools and workplaces at its 6th Annual Corporate Breakfast on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at the Cincinnati Ballet Margaret & Michael Valentine Center for Dance.   As violence continues to increase throughout our local community and the nation, over 150 key business leaders, including elected officials, are scheduled to attend the event.

“We’re all alarmed by increasing violence that does and can surface anywhere and everywhere. What happens in the home, flows into the streets and walks into the workplaces. But we are not powerless. Our clear message to leaders is that we CAN do something about it,” said Kristin Shrimplin, CEO of Women Helping Women. “We have ways of identifying red flags in our region and in our workplaces and we have workable solutions to prevent and disrupt violence.”

Shannon Watts, Founder of Moms Demand Action, the nation’s largest grassroots effort fighting gun violence, will keynote the breakfast with a strong message on fighting for public safety measures that can protect people, workplaces, students and families from gun violence. She will discuss how gun violence, like gender-based violence, is truly preventable and how partnerships with business and community leaders can drive culture shifts to improve safety and vitality in our region.   The fireside chat format will be hosted by BrandTrue’s President & Chief Truth-Teller Rebeca Arbona.

Data trends show that 53% of mass shooters have a history of domestic violence. 70% of survivors report that their perpetrators came to their workplace. At the event, WHW will present its call to action to leaders to build momentum and to make a difference in their workplace. Through WHW’s 2023 strategic push, the organization will expand its nationally recognized workplace training program, WorkStrong®, that is evidence-based and designed to empower businesses to prevent violence impacting the workplace. With the help of corporate/business partners in attendance, WHW’s goal is to double programming for Fortune 500 and 100 companies, as well as a strong focus on women and minority-owned businesses, to promote a safe workplace through best-practice policy support, bystander training and connection of employees experiencing gender-based violence to WHW expert advocates.
