CINCINNATI, OH – August 22, 2024 —While the rest of the nation celebrates National Waffle Day on August 24, waffles hold a place of honor every day of the year at Taste of Belgium. On National Waffle Day, Taste of Belgium connects with its roots, celebrating the menu item that sparked the seven-bistro chain. Belgian-born Jean-François Flechet founded Taste of Belgium 17 years ago in historic Findlay Market with only a120-pound cast-iron waffle maker and a recipe for authentic Liége waffles.
“We like to say we’re more than just waffles at Taste of Belgium, but on National Waffle Day we’re eager to showcase the food that is at the heart of our menu,” said Flechet. “If we were in charge of the calendar, every day would be National Waffle Day, because we know how incredibly delicious and versatile waffles can be.”
Taste of Belgium’s menu includes several savory, waffle-centric items, including their signature Waffle and Chicken, Waffle Benedict, McWaffle, Brunch Burger, and Waffle and Lox. Guests can also choose from a variety of sweet Liège Waffles, including Banana and Nutella Waffle, Strawberries and Cream Waffle, Belgian Chocolate and Cream Waffle, S’more Waffle, and the Over-The-Top Waffle, as well as an anything-but-plain Plain Waffle.
Taste of Belgium’s waffle is a twist on a classic Liège waffle recipe, named after the city where founder Jean-François Flechet grew up. Made from a dough, not batter, the recipe uses a special Belgian pearl sugar that caramelizes as it bakes, creating the waffle’s unique taste and distinctive crunch.
With National Dog Day just two days later, on August 26, Taste of Belgium is honoring all four-legged friends with a Special Giveaway on Saturday, August 24 at all of its Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky and Dayton bistros. All Guests with a dog will receive a complimentary “Woofle”, a tail-wagging treat waffle dusted with special dog-pleasin’ seasoning. Dogs are always welcome to accompany Guests at all locations when the outdoor patios are open.
Savory and dessert waffles are available for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner for dine-in, carry-out and delivery at all seven Taste of Belgium bistros. Multi-packs of Traditional Waffles are also available at select Kroger stores and Dorothy Lane Market locations.
