TASTE OF BELGIUM LAUNCHES RARE CHIMAY BEER TASTING

Celebrating the Belgian Brewing Tradition with a Chimay Flight

at Select Taste of Belgium Bistros Today through July 21

CINCINNATI, OH – June 20, 2024 — Taste of Belgium, the Cincinnati-based eatery known for its Belgian-inspired cuisine and exceptional beer selection, debuts an exclusive Chimay beer tasting starting today. Chimay Brewery(Brasserie de Chimay) is a distinguished, historic brewery located at Scourmont Abbey, a Trappist monastery in Chimay, Belgium. It is one of only thirteen breweries in the world that produce authentic Trappist beer at an abbey supervised by the Abbey’s monks and has been doing so since 1862 from water drawn from the Abbey’s wells. Taste of Belgium offers all five Chimay ales on permanent tap, the only U.S. establishment outside of Belgium where beer enthusiasts can consistently enjoy this complete selection.

Jean-François Flechet, owner of Taste of Belgium, a native of Belgium, and honorary knight of the Belgian Brewers’ Paddle as an ambassador of Belgian beer and culture in the U.S. expressed his enthusiasm: "Chimay’s beers are authentic Trappist ales with a rich history providing our guests with a unique Belgian beer experience. Our commitment to serving all five ales is a testament to our dedication to Belgian brewing traditions and our passion for offering the best to our customers."  Taste of Belgium has one of the largest selections of beer on tap in the Tri-State, with between 24 and 54 draft beers at its bistros, and a special focus on the rich heritage of Belgian beer.

To enhance the tasting experience, Taste of Belgium features miniature Chimay glasses, allowing customers to enjoy a flight of these iconic beers in the proper goblet style. The four Chimay ales featured in the tasting flight are:

●      Chimay Première (Red) 7% ABV (alcohol by volume)

Chimay Première was the first ale to be sold by the Trappist monks in 1862, and is known for its dark copper color, rich creamy foam and nutritious quality. With a distinct apricot aroma, it has a pleasantly light and silky mouthfeel finished with a touch of bitterness.

●      Chimay Grande Réserve (Blue) 9% ABV (alcohol by volume)

The strongest of the Chimay beers & originally brewed to celebrate Christmas in 1948, Grande Réserve has a strong presence of dried dark fruit notes and carries a warming alcohol finish.

●      Chimay Cinq Cents (White) 8% ABV (alcohol by volume)

With a typical golden color, and a slightly hazy appearance, this beer is topped with a fine foam which releases a bouquet of fruity esters and floral-hop aromas. Mellow flavors of muscat, golden raisins and fresh bread are perfectly balanced by the distinct hoppy bitterness.

●      Chimay Dorée (Gold) 4.8% ABV (alcohol by volume)

With refreshing aromas of hops and spices, Dorée was originally reserved for the monastic community and its guests and staff.  It was released to the public after a growing demand to know what the monks themselves drank.

Taste of Belgium also carries the special edition Chimay Cent Cinquante (Green) that was recently released to celebrate the 150th  anniversary of the Abbey, at its Crestview Hills, Fields Ertel, and The Banks bistros (not included in the tasting).  Chimay Cent Cinquante is a10% ABV, and described as a strong, sophisticated, and refreshing blond ale, with a balanced flavor and a floral fragrance, combined with hints of dried fruit and spices.

Beginning today through Sunday, July 21 (Belgian National Day), Taste of Belgium Crestview Hills, Fields Ertel, and The Banks bistros are offering the opportunity to sample a flight of four legendary Chimay beers for $15. The flight includes Chimay Première, Grande Réserve, Cinq Cents and Dorée.  All seven Taste of Belgium bistros carry Chimay Cinq Cents.

About Taste of Belgium

Taste of Belgium is a modern Belgian brasserie renowned for offering exquisite dinners, the best brunch in town, and a curated beer list featuring an array of Belgian brews. Our menu is a harmonious blend of Belgian and American cuisine, highlighting locally sourced ingredients and crafted with culinary precision. We take American classics and Belgianize them, while also taking Belgian classics and twisting them using local ingredients. We take pride in our extensive selection of craft cocktails, designed to complement every meal. Our journey began in 2007, when Jean-François Flechet brought back a traditional Liège-style waffle recipe and 120lbs. cast-iron waffle maker from Belgium. Starting as a small waffle stand at Cincinnati’s historic Findlay Market, we have grown to seven full-service brasseries across Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, and Dayton. In 2023, our founder Jean-François Flechet was knighted by the Knighthood of the Brewer's Paddle, a prestigious organization based in Belgium with a history spanning hundreds of years. This honor marks a significant milestone in our commitment to Belgian brewing traditions. Experience the best in Belgian-inspired dining at Taste of Belgium. Visit us at www.tasteofbelgium.com.
