GIRL SCOUTS OF KENTUCKY’S WILDERNESS ROAD DONATED 4,956 BOXES OF COOKIES TO THE NATIONAL GUARD & KSP TROOPER ISLAND SUMMER CAMP
Over 500 Girls Collected Nearly $25,000 of Donated Girl Scout Cookies from Customers During the 2021 Cookie Program Season
ERLANGER, KY– May 14, 2021–– After extending its cookie selling season through April 11, due to multiple constraints including severe weather throughout Kentucky and COVID-19 restrictions, Girl Scouts of Kentucky’s Wilderness Road (GSKWR) reached their goal of selling 4,956 boxes of Girl Scout cookies – and donated over $25,000 worth of cookies to the National Guard and KSP Trooper Island Summer Camp, as part of the Council’s ‘Operation Sweet Treat’ program. Through Operation Sweet Treat, Girl Scout customers purchase cookies and then donate them to important causes locally. This is the Girl Scouts of Kentucky’s Wilderness Road’s single largest community contribution for the 2021 Cookie Season.
“The Kentucky community supported our girls like never before, during a time when we had so many barriers,” said Carolyn McNerney, Product Sales Director, GSKWR. “Through our partners Walmart and GrubHub, our girls could reach customers in ways that worked for them. In turn, we succeeded in selling our entire inventory of cookies”, she continued. Over the last decade, the customers of Kentucky Girl Scouts have contributed over $300,000 equivalent to over 60,000 boxes of cookies that have been donated to worthy local causes, including food pantries, senior living facilities, law enforcement programs and the military. KSP’s Trooper Island, located at Dale Hollow Lake near the Cumberland and Clinton County line, where Kentucky children can experience summer camp with Troopers.
All proceeds from cookie sales stay local and are truly girl-focused, with 19% going toward camp programs and properties, 19% toward troop proceeds and rewards, and 33% toward membership, volunteer development and program support. The vital programming that is funded through Kentucky Girl Scout Cookie season leaves a lifelong impact on Kentucky’s future leaders.
