Unusually Mild Winter Caused More Fleas, Ticks and Heartworms For Pets
CINCINNATI, OH – August 18, 2017 – Pets In Need of Greater Cincinnati is in need of monetary contributions to offset the high cost of flea, tick and heartworm preventatives that is subsidizes for its clients, who are on fixed incomes. Due to an unusually mild winter, the clinic has experienced increased demand for these expensive preventatives.
Flea and tick issues can be unbearable for pets that are left untreated, and they are in danger of contracting a wide range of diseases carried by parasites, including Lyme Disease. But for Pets In Need clients who are at or below the Federal poverty level, the cost of recommended monthly preventatives, are out of reach without subsidized pricing provided by Pets In Need. In 2016, the clinic dispensed 11,207 doses of flea/tick prevention and 5,927 doses of heartworm prevention at a cost of nearly $60,000.
