LEMON POPPYSEED WAFFLES ARRIVE FOR LIMITED TIME AT TASTE OF BELGIUM

The Bright, Classic Flavor Interpreted as a Waffle,

Now Available for a Limited Time Only at all Taste of Belgium Bistros

CINCINNATI, OH – April 4, 2024 Flowers are in bloom, and a new seasonal treat, Taste of Belgium’s Lemon Poppyseed Waffle, is providing one more reason to celebrate the return of springtime. Available only until April 30, 2024, the Lemon Poppyseed Waffle is a freshly made, thick and crunchy waffle perfect for on-the-go snacking or warmed in your toaster for a traditional breakfast treat.  At all Taste of Belgium bistros, the Lemon Poppyseed Waffle is served as a dessert with house-made lemon curd, maple ricotta whipped cream and finished with lemon zest.

Drawing inspiration from a classic flavor pairing, this new waffle transforms lemon’s tartness and poppyseed’s sweet nuttiness into a delightfully “over the top” dessert waffle that’s also perfect for a deliciously decadent brunch.

Taste of Belgium’s waffle is a twist on a classic Liège waffle recipe, named after the city where founder Jean-François Flechet grew up. The waffle is made from a dough, not a batter, and the recipe relies on a special pearl sugar imported from Belgium. The Belgian pearl sugar caramelizes as it bakes, adding to the waffle’s unique taste and distinctive crunch.

In 2007, Jean-François brought a 120-pound, Belgian-made cast iron waffle maker to Cincinnati, along with his passion to share the flavors and tastes of his Belgian heritage with a wider audience. From modest beginnings in a produce store at Findlay Market, Taste of Belgium’s Liège style waffles quickly earned a cult following. Their popularity led academic-turned-restaurateur Jean-François to the decision of a lifetime. “In 2008 I cashed out my IRA and purchased 10 tons of pearl sugar. It was the best investment I ever made.” For his dedication to promoting this regional culinary delight, he was awarded an Honorary Ambassador of the Province of Liège.

Like spring blooms, Lemon Poppyseed Waffles are only here for a limited time, so get them before they’re gone. The Lemon Poppyseed Waffle dessert can be enjoyed in-bistro, carryout or delivery through their delivery partners for $10.  The Lemon Poppy Waffles are also available to take home in a 4-pack for $12.

Since its inception, Taste of Belgium has been committed to introducing Greater Cincinnatians to the rich flavors of Belgian cuisine, exceptional service and customer satisfaction. The creation of the limited-time-only Lemon Poppyseed Waffle is a testament to Taste of Belgium's dedication to authenticity, quality, and, most importantly, its valued patrons.
